Whether designing, illustrating or sculpting, I tend to refer to design sensibilities of the past. That is, I point to objects and ideas from genres and movements of the history of art/design because they provide a cultural reference point and reach across the distance with which the dystopian and weird set themselves apart. I tend to value the tactile and clunky rather than the overly complex for the same reason .
